Tina Griffith is the associate head coach for the Mountaineer Rowing program. She is currently in her second stint on the coaching staff, serving as the assistant coach from 2004-11 before being promoted to associate head coach from 2011-12. After leaving the program for four years, she returned in 2016 and reassumed associate head coaching duties prior to the 2022-23 academic year.

In her 20th season with the rowing program, Griffith works with the novice rowers in the fall and assists with the varsity four boats in the spring.

During the 2023 season, the Mountaineers sent their Novice squads to the Head of the Occoquan Regatta in fall competition. The Novice/Freshman 4+ boat finished first out of eight teams and the 8+ boat finished in fourth place.

During the regular-season competition at the Knecht Cup Regatta, the Novice/Freshman 4+ crew finished in first place in the heats and in fifth place in the grand finals.The Novice/Freshman 8+ boat finished in second place in the heats and earned a fifth-place finish in the petite final.
 
During the 2022 season, the Mountaineers sent their Novice 8+ squad to the Murphy Cup Regatta and to the Knecht Cup Regatta. WVU finished fourth at the Knecht Cup, one spot ahead of Delaware to whom they placed behind a week earlier.

In the 2022 fall, the Novice squads had a good showing, seeing the Novice 4 boats finish with first, fourth and seventh place finishes out of 17 entries. The Novice 8 boats claimed fourth and sixth out of nine entries.
 
During the 2021 fall, the Novice squad competed at the Head of the Occuquan in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The Mountaineers sent three squads for its competition, earning a second and fifth place finish in the 4+ boats and a fourth place finish with the 8+ boat.

In the 2020 fall, due to COVID-19, the WVU Novice boats did not race.

In the 2019 fall, the WVU Novice Four boats claimed a pair of top-three finishes at the Head of the Occoquan at Fairfax Station, Virginia. Two more boats finished in sixth and seventh at the same regatta.

In 2018, the novice squad notched two top-three finishes, including a second-place finish in the novice four race at the Head of the Occoquan.

In 2017-18, the Mountaineers finished with three first-place finishes, which included a first-place finish over Old Dominion by the second varsity eight boat in Petite Final at the Big 12 Championship.

In 2016-17, her first season back with the Mountaineers, Griffith worked with the novice rowers in the fall and coached the varsity four boats in the spring. She coached the varsity four boat to a victory in the Petite Final at the Big 12 Championship, where the Mountaineers finished fifth.

In the classroom, 24 student-athletes earned CRCA (College Rowing Coaches of America) Scholar-Athlete recognitions and 50 have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team. 
 
Griffith’s extensive knowledge of the program dates back to 1998, when she walked on to the team. She went on to be named a team captain in 1999-2000 and again in 2002-03. She then worked with the team as a graduate assistant from 2003-2004.
 
Griffith returned to the Mountaineer rowing program after serving as a West Virginia State Trooper for two years. Prior to that, she served as a graduate assistant for WVU’s College of Physical Activity and Sports Science for two years.

A native of West Liberty, West Virginia, Griffith graduated from WVU with a bachelor of science degree in psychology in 2003 and a masters in athletic coaching education in 2005.
