Announcement: 
Tryouts for the 2024-2025 WVU Cheerleading team will be held April 20-21, 2024. For more detailed information please read the General Tryout Information document posted on our website.  An optional informational meeting and pre-registration will be held on April 8, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mountainlair Rhododendron Room.  

All of the requirements for both the Blue and Gold cheer teams can be found by selecting the team in the gold Spirit Program bar on this web page or reviewing the tryout information document.
Incoming freshmen are only eligible for the Blue team, transfer students or upperclassmen are eligible for either Blue or Gold.

Guys and Girls, Be a Part of the Tradition!

The Mountaineer Spirit Program consists of two Co-ed Cheer Teams and a Dance Team. West Virginia University is a school known for its strong tradition and spirit.

West Virginia University is a proud member of the Big 12 Conference and joins other Division I Universities of the highest caliber.

The West Virginia University Spirit Programs help to encourage and promote spirit for Athletic and University events. The purpose of the West Virginia Spirit Program is to support Intercollegiate Athletics and West Virginia University while carrying out the University’s mission in an appropriate manner and dress.

In order to be eligible for any of the WVU Spirit Programs, each candidate must:

  1. Be enrolled as a full-time WVU student
  2. Maintain a min. cumulative 2.0 GPA
  3. Have proof from a medical doctor of a completed physical within 12 months prior to the tryout starting date, and stating the candidate’s fitness to participate in the program’s activities
  4. Have Health/Hospitalization Insurance information
