Joe Swan is responsible for preparing the myriad publications produced by the West Virginia University Athletics Communications Office. He serves as editor of the guides for all 18 sports, Mountaineer Illustrated game programs and other special projects and publications.
In addition to those duties, he coordinates the department’s graphic design and photographic needs and supervises the official statistics crew for football and men’s and women’s basketball.
Swan joined the West Virginia staff in September 2000, after serving as managing editor at the National Association for Sport and Physical Education in Reston, Va. Prior to working at NASPE, he was a production assistant with the Mountaineer Sports Network for two years and assistant editor of the Blue and Gold News for two years.
He began his career at WVU as a student assistant in the sports communications office, where he also served two years as a graduate assistant in the publications department.
He graduated magna cum laude from WVU’s Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism in 1993 with an emphasis on public relations and a minor in psychology and earned a master’s degree in sport management from WVU in 1996.
The New Cumberland, West Virginia, native and his wife Regan, have four children - Wil, Kelan, Alex and Ellison.
