Erin Gibson

Erin Gibson returned to West Virginia University in November 2023 as its senior associate athletic director for marketing. She previously worked in marketing at WVU from 2014 to 2018, her last two years serving as its director of marketing.

She has day-to-day oversight of the Mountaineers' sports marketing efforts.
 
Most recently, Gibson spent a year at the University of Illinois where she was its assistant athletics director for revenue campaigns. During her tenure there, she helped the Illini increase football season ticket sales by 36% and men’s basketball season ticket sales by 11%.
 
She managed strategy and execution of Illinois’ digital, email marketing and marketing automation to maximize all revenue opportunities through the integration of Paciolan, Oracle’s Eloqua email system and Salesforce CRM. She analyzed data streams within in the department to develop fan engagement strategies, monitor performance and make recommendations for greater alliance throughout the department. Gibson also conduced market research of buying behavior and fan engagement to improve season ticket retention, awareness and interest.
 
Prior to that, Gibson spent two years working in the development office at the University of North Carolina, her second as its marketing manager. Her professional experience also includes a two-year stint at Illinois where she served as its director of marketing during the 2019-20 academic year.
 
A native of Kent, Ohio, Gibson earned two bachelor’s degrees at Arizona State University, one in business communications and the other in business legal studies. While at Arizona State she was also captain of the Sun Devils’ Spirt Squad. She earned her master’s degree in sport management from WVU in 2016.
 
Married to Cody Gibson, son of former Mountaineer defensive coordinator Tony Gibson, the couple have one son, Mac. Since 2021, she has taught an online course in West Virginia University’s sport management master’s program as an adjunct professor.Â
