April Messerly is the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Capital Projects, Facilities and Event Management at West Virginia University, having joined the athletics department in 2000.

Messerly was promoted to her current role in 2021. She previously served as the Associate Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations (2016-21), Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities and Operations (2013-16), Athletics Facilities Director (2009-13), Assistant Director of Athletics Facilities (2001-08) and Athletics Facilities Graduate Assistant (2000-01).

In her current role, she also serves as administrator for gymnastics and rowing.

A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Messerly oversees the day-to-day operations for all of WVU’s athletic facilities, including Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium and the WVU Coliseum. She also serves as the Big 12 Conference game manager for WVU’s football and men’s basketball home games, works directly with the athletic department’s capital improvement projects and oversees all aspects of event management for WVU’s 18 varsity sports.

In addition, Messerly is responsible for facility scheduling and planning the department’s master schedule for all facilities. She has served as the tournament director for numerous NCAA, Big 12, Big East, EAGL and EWL Championships that WVU has hosted. Messerly was the NCAA site representative for the 2008 NCAA Northeast Regional Gymnastics Championships in State College, Pennsylvania.

She is a member of the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) and the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA), where she has served on the board of directors since 2013 and as President of the organization for the 2017-18 year.

Messerly was the 2010-11 recipient of the Big East Senior Woman Administrator Professional Grant for Women and Ethnic Minorities and named the NACGC/W Southeast Regional Administrator of the Year in 2015 and then again in 2018.

Messerly earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and anthropology from the University of Virginia in 2000. She received her master’s degree from West Virginia University in sport management in 2001.

April and her husband, Bryan, WVU’s Associate Athletics Director for Communications, have a son, Judd, and a daughter, Carper.
