Tanner Kolb joined the Mountaineer athletic staff in August 2012, and was named Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning in December 2017. Kolb handles the strength and conditioning responsibilities for rifle, men's soccer and wrestling.
 
In May of 2021, Kolb was named a Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC) by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa). The honor is the highest given in the strength and conditioning coaching profession.

He arrived at West Virginia in 2012 after a one-year stint at East Carolina as an assistant strength and conditioning coach, where he designed and implemented specific programs for baseball, volleyball and tennis, as well as assisting with football.
 
Prior to his tenure at East Carolina, Kolb spent three years as the head strength coach and adjunct professor at Waynesburg. While at Waynesburg, Kolb worked to design and implement programs in all sports, as well as teaching four classes.
 
A native of Pittsburgh, Kolb turned in two stints as a prep strength and conditioning coach at Perry High (Okla.) in the summer of 2004, as well as Petoskey High (Mich.) and Charlevoix High (Mich.) from 2006-08. There, he contributed time at Northern Michigan Sports Medicine while lecturing and directing powerlifting and strongman competitions. Kolb also coached an athlete who finished second at the United States Men's Powerlifting Championships.
 
He also spent three years as a fitness specialist at the Stillwater Medical Center and Total Health in Oklahoma teaching Olympic lifting techniques, instructing group exercise classes, supervising and judging the weightlifting portion of the Pioneer Senior Olympics.
Kolb began his career in 2003 as a volunteer in the Oklahoma State athletic weight room, working primarily with the football, wrestling, softball and equestrian squads.
 
Kolb earned a bachelor's degree in sports and exercise science from Messiah College in 2003, where he served as a three-year captain for the wrestling squad. He earned a master's degree in applied exercise physiology education at Oklahoma State in 2007.
 
Kolb has had his works published in numerous industry-associated publications, including The Sport Journal, Journal of Applied Ergonomics and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.
 
Kolb and his wife, Katie, have one son, Lincoln.
