Vanderheyden Collects Record Performance on Senior Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team completed the regular outdoor season on Saturday evening as it served host to the WVU Last Chance Meet at the Track and Field Complex at Mylan Park in Morgantown.

Redshirt senior Mikenna Vanderheyden closed out the meet with a stellar performance in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase, claiming first place. Vanderheyden became the third fastest Mountaineer in program history with a time of 10:02.80 on Saturday night. The redshirt senior trails senior Ceili McCabe and alumna Amy Cashin who hold times of 9:25.98 and 9:58.75, respectively.

Redshirt senior Sarah Tait and redshirt sophomore Emily Bryce had their collegiate debuts in the 3,000-meter steeplechase adding impressive times of 10:16.07 and 10:59.97 while redshirt sophomore Zara Zervos added a personal best time of 11:27.78.

Additionally, West Virginia collected four other first place finishes on Saturday.

In the women's twilight 5,000 meters, redshirt sophomore Aubrie Custer ran for a personal best time of 18:33.27, finishing first overall. Freshman Kishay Rowe added another gold medal in the women's twilight 800 meters as she raced to a 2:07.91 finish.

The third first place of the day came from freshman Lily Haught in the women's 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:03.29. The final top finish was recorded by redshirt sophomore Kase Torchia who boasted a season high time of 2:25.19 in the women's 800 meters.

On the field, redshirt freshman Annishka McDonald tied her season best height at the 1.70 meter-mark in the women's high jump, finishing second overall. Freshman Victoria Marston added an impressive 1.64-meter finish as she collected a personal best height as well as third place.

Next up, the Mountaineers will travel to the 2024 Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championship on May 9-11. This year's championship will be hosted by Baylor University and will be held at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium in Waco, Texas. The outdoor championship will be streamed live on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ while live results can be found at WVUsports.com.
